## About Winamp and Edcast DSP

Winamp is an audio player for macOS, Windows, and Android. 

Edcast was an open-source audio encoder. The project was later replaced with Altacast. Broadcasters used Edcast as a standalone encoder, and the encoder's DSP still works with Winamp. 

You can still find versions of the Edcast Winamp plugin online.

### What we love about Winamp & Edcast

Winamp supports an extensive collection of plugins, including the Shoutcast DSP. However, it can't stream to an Icecast server. 

By using the Edcast DSP, you can stream audio straight to your Icecast or Steamcast broadcasting server.

Both options represent a cost-free way to start broadcasting straight from your computer without the need for expensive radio automation software.

## How to setup Winamp Edcast with your broadcasting server

#### 1. Download Winamp and Edcast DSP

You can also use the DJLab Edcast [download link.](http://djlab.com/stuff/dj/edcast_winamp_3.1.21.exe)

- Open the Winamp download to run the setup wizard. 
- Select the default options. 
- Once you are finished configuring Winamp, just launch it. 

 You will need to configure the skin and file associations:

#### 2. Edcast encoder setup

- Open the setup file and install Edcast in the same folder as Winamp. 

You will need the lame_enc.dll file to stream in the MP3 codec. 

- Download the [Lame 3.100 here](https://www.rarewares.org/mp3.php). Extract the lame_dll file and copy it to the Winamp folder. 
- For AAC support, download the  [libFAAC dll for Win32](http://www.rarewares.org/aac-encoders.php#libfaac-win)

#### 3. Connect to your streaming server

- Select **Options > Preferences > DSP/Effect.** 
- Select the Edcast plug-in and **configure active plug-in.**

##### Entering your server details

With Edcast DSP, you can broadcast to your Shoutcast 1, Shoutcast 2, or Icecast server.

Select **OK** and **Connect.**

The plugin will capture sound from the DSP. You'll not need to configure the audio capture settings.

#### 3. Add your music and start broadcasting

## How to setup NextKast with your broadcasting server

#### 1. Download and install NextKast

Download the trial version valid for 14 days.

After the download:

- Open the downloaded .exe file to run the setup wizard

#### 3. Audio and format bitrate settings

- Enter your station Name, URL (website), Genre, and Description
- Tick Auto-reconnect (establishes the connection automatically)
- Recommended bitrates: 128 kbps (CD-quality) MP3 or 64 kbps AAC+
- Click **Save**

#### 4. Playing music and creating rotations

NextKast makes it easy to run your station unattended by creating rotations. Rotations are made up of categories. NextKast essentially picks one song from each category and plays it as part of a continuous playlist. 

Creating categories is quite straightforward. Just follow the steps from 1 to 9.

- Name your category appropriately.

- Add songs to your category (Step 4 and 5).
- Before step 6, you can create several categories.

- Give your rotation a new name before saving it in step 9. 
- You'll find it on the bottom toolbar. 
- Just double click the new rotation you have created to load it.
- Ensure that the **AUTO** function is selected. Click play on the left player (Player 1).

## How to setup PlayIt Live with your broadcasting server

#### 1. Download and install PlayIt Live

- Download and open the .exe file to run the setup wizard. 
- Launch the program and sign up for a free account.

#### 2. Encoder setup

You will need an account to add plugins. If you selected "Activate Offline" on the first run, now is the time to create an account.

There are two ways to set up the Internet Broadcast Plugin: 

- Option 1: Log into your account from your browser. Select **Plugins > Internet Broadcast > Get for Free.** Download the plugin's .exe file and run it. That's all!

Option 2: Select **Plugins** > **Plugin Manager**.

- Once you confirm that your settings are correct, select **OK.**
- You need to specify the audio source to broadcast, for instance, **PlayIt Live Main Mix.**

#### 3. How to Schedule Tracks 

- We need to add tracks before scheduling or cueing. 

- Select **Manage** > **Tracks.**

-  On Manage Tracks, select **Add New.**

- Pick your music folder. 
- You can enable silence detection, as shown below:

- Create a new category for your added tracks. 
- Next, click **Finish.**

- Drag music to the hour segment. 
- Enabling **Automation** will start playback.

## About PlayoutONE

## Setting up PlayoutONE for first-time users

#### 1. Download and install the Standard Suite

Get the trial[ here.](https://www.playoutone.com/trial-download/) You'll need to provide your email to receive the download link. It's a large download of about 400 to 500 MB.

- Open the .exe file to run the Setup Wizard.
- We recommend selecting all the apps, for now, to test them out.

PlayoutONE stores your user settings on the Microsoft SQL database. It's installed alongside the program via the Setup Wizard.

When you click **Next,** the Setup Wizard will download & install the prerequisite software (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server 2012).

It may take some time to install the SQL database. After the installation: 

- Click to **Finish**. (This will launch PlayoutONE). 
- Select **Trial** on the PlayoutONE License Window. 

The program will then establish a connection to the database:

If you're a new user, select **New SQL Setup**. Subsequently, you will get a notification that PlayoutONE_Standard was successfully installed.

#### 2. LiveStream Encoder setup

After setting up PlayoutONE, you will need to set up Livestream.

Launch the **Livestream** Desktop App.

- Click **Add New Encoder -> Server Details.**

For the Meta/Billboard File, make sure the file path is as shown above. You can also change your audio capture (output or input) to fit your hardware setup.

####  3. Playing Music 

On the main program, import music tracks using the Media Finder (+ allows you add one file ++ lets you add folders and subfolders).

During the importation, the program will analyze the waveforms. So, if you're importing a lot of files, it might take some time. You can build a playlist by dragging songs to the hour segments.

## How to setup Mixxx with your broadcasting server

## 1. How to install Mixxx

In macOS: 

- Open the Mixxx.DMG file by double-clicking.
- Drag and drop Mixxx into your Applications folder.

You can download Mixxx from the App Store.

In Windows: 

- Open the downloaded .exe file to run the installer.

#### 2. Install LAME library for MP3 support Mixxx

Are you looking for a way to add the MP3 lame encoder for Mixxx? You'll need to configure the LAME library.

In Windows: 

- Download the Lame binaries file from [Rarewares.org](https://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-libraries.php). 
- The present version is the libmp3lame 3.99.5. Select the download link that corresponds to your platform (x86 or x64).
- The LAME library is a Zip file that you have to extract.
- Copy the libmp3lame.dll to the Mixxx folder (e.g. C:\ > Program Files > Mixxx)

For macOS: 

- Download the Lame 3.98.4 universal x86_64 zip ([Download link](https://mega.co.nz/#!WdwHHTzA!UkdJwUQiihwHb0ShdOBTYj8noSwXluxiKjdWvFQRgOU)).
- Unpack the archive and install it.

#### 3. Setting Up Internet Radio

On the main menu on Mixxx, click **Options** > **Preferences** > **Live Broadcasting**

For radios hosted on Cloudradio, you'll find your server or connection details on the [radio dashboard.](https://helpcenter.cloudrad.io/article/show/79847-radio-dashboard)

If you don't have a radio hosting service, you can easily create [Shoutcast or Icecast](https://www.cloudrad.io/radio-hosting/) servers on our radio console.

##### Entering your server details

Mixxx allows you to stream to your Icecast and Shoutcast 1 server. They have not added support for the Shoutcast 2 streaming protocol - however, they state that you can still use the Shoutcast 1 protocol only that you must provide a stream name. 

If you broadcast on CloudRadio, we offer support for the Shoutcast and Icecast protocols making it easy to use to broadcast on our radio servers. 

Here is how to set up with Icecast.  

### **Icecast - Example**

**Server Type: Icecast**

**Server Address: e.g. 10048.cloudrad.io**

**Server Port: e.g. 8000**

**Username: e.g. dj_user**

**Password: e.g. n3t8zdw0ka **

**Mount: /live

***Set the server type as SHOUTcast 1**

Note that this has been tested to work with **Mixxx Version 2.3 beta**. We can't guarantee that it will work with later or earlier versions.

Stream name: Must be provided to work with SHOUTcast 2. If not, the stream will be rejected.

##### Encoder settings:

- We recommend a bitrate of 96 kbps or more for MP3 streaming. Most MP3 streams broadcast at 128 kbps, regarded as CD-sound quality.
- MP3 encoding works if you installed the LAME library.
- Leave the metadata format as it is unless you want to customize what listeners see as the music tracks play on your radio player. 
- Click **Apply** and **OK to Finish**

For a successful connection, you will see the status as connected. 

#### 4. Broadcasting radio on Mixxx - What is possible

Talking over the music is possible since you get four microphone inputs. You can also connect your broadcasting desk using the Aux inputs. Recording your shows can be achieved.

### What we love about Traktor

It’s one of the best Dj programs known for advanced sound features. Its standout features include:

#### 1. Install Traktor

The program comes with a demo version. It stops working after 30 minutes of use, but it can be restarted.  

In Windows, for instance, after the download: 

- Open the downloaded .exe file to run the setup wizard.
- Launch Traktor.

#### 2. Options to capture & broadcast audio without an integrated encoder

Since the software lacks a built-in encoder, it cannot broadcast to a radio broadcasting server directly. You can try alternative methods of capturing and broadcasting audio, including: 

**a) Use an encoder that can capture audio from the sound card**

There are a number of encoders that can capture audio outputted to your sound card. Paid options include [LiveStream](https://www.cloudrad.io/playoutone/), [Rocket Broadcaster](https://www.cloudrad.io/rocket-broadcaster/), [Audio Hijack](https://www.cloudrad.io/audio-hijack/), and [Sam Cast](https://www.cloudrad.io/sam-cast/).  

**b) Create virtual inputs and outputs** 

If you want more control over the audio that's captured in your computer, it's recommended that you use a program to create virtual inputs and outputs. 

One of the best configurations is using [Voicemeeter with BUTT.](https://www.cloudrad.io/broadcast-audio/) 

**c) Use stereo mix (may not work on all computers)**

Finally, if your computer supports Stereo Mix, you can use this technique to capture audio from all applications. Then, use a free encoder like [Altacast](https://www.cloudrad.io/altacast-edcast/) or [BUTT](https://www.cloudrad.io/butt-broadcasting/) for streaming.

#### 3. Playing music

- Drag and drop music files into the playlist tabs
- Load them onto the decks
- Click the **Play** button.

## How to Broadcast Live Radio

#### 1. How to install Audio Hijack

- Download and extract the file.
- Run the .dmg file.
- Drag the .app file to your applications folder.

#### 2. Getting started

- Click **New Session** and select **Internet Radio**

- You can rename your sessions with your radio name
- Then open it

- You will see the two inputs (Application and Input Device)
- For **Application**, select your radio automation software or DJ program like Serato
- Set your microphone as your **Input Device**

- Select **Output Device** to set your playback device

Depending on your input settings, you may be required to install an extra plugin. In such a case, you will be notified. You can proceed by clicking on install.

You should see that mAirList is attempting to establish a connection:

You can also specify how the encoder connects to the broadcasting server: 

In the encoder tab:

- Select **Options.** 
- Then, set your options and click **OK.**

####  3. Playing Music

We need to add tracks into the Playlist: 

- Select **Insert** **>** **File(s).**

- Select **AUTO > Play button.**
